Paper Making with Inclusions

In class there were three seperate vats with different types of inclusions we could choose from: natural material, denim, and multi-colored threads.

Natural Material

Denim

Multi-colored Threads

After Class I was given the opportunity to make some additional paper because I helped in the process of cutting the inclusions for the vats. Wendy an upper level papermaking student joined me.

Detail

Wendy Boiled down some birch bark and added it into the natural material vat. Here is a piece of her paper that she gave me in return for helping her.

2D Photo Weaving Project

The objective of the project was to find a way to combine two photos and make them work together. The challenge was that we we're not aloud to simply pick out photos, we had to blind draw them. I received a picture of a man looking off a balcony with binoculars and a first communion photo. Slightly creepy yet intriguing results.

Paper Making 101

In my 2D class we are learning to make paper. First we practiced by making a plain sheet, then we were given our requirements for the project. We must make a portfolio that contains at least five sheets, not including the plain one, and the portfolio itself is a double size sheet of paper that will hold the other sheets. The sheets were to include a patterned piece, an all over surface treatment piece, a piece with geometric shapes, a piece with line work, and a piece with natural materials. All of which are pictured except the natural materials and the double size portfolio sheet, both of which are still drying.
